(Consider yourself peak GenX if you mentally yelled "Pivot!" just seeing the title...)
In my last post, I mentioned migrating my site to a new name to better align with the direction my coaching practice has taken. That's where we are: this will be the last post as Widow Wellness Coaching.
Please be sure to save my new email address to keep receiving these: jamie@griefsupport.life.
Why am I changing the domaine name?
Several things have become clear as I work with clients and as I work more with the grief and bereavement community and I've been rethinking what I claim my support to be against what it has become. Initially, I worked with widows simply because that was my direct experience. However, I've been working with people across the grief spectrum and it's clear that there's simply a huge need to grief support regardless of loss type.
Another point is that grief, ironically, needs to be safe. With any sort of difference under attack currently, people who don't fit in to society's view of who should be grieving will be less likley to seek out and receive the support they need. Meeting people where they are as who they are is crucial. Speaking from my own experience, it was completely not helpful to insist I turn to god or jesus when Bill died because that doesn't mean anything to me. Knowingly pushing our beliefs onto others who don't believe the same thing is not only not helpful, it's actually harmful. Grief can have us feeling SPUN and to remain so unseen like that is incredibly disconcerting. I hope to bring truly open and inclusive support to anyone who needs it.
Finally, everything comes up in grief. Everything. Every long standing family tension, every crack in a friendship, every question about self worth. I've noticed my grief sessions often focus on other issues because the goal is to help people thrive again after loss. If that's the case, that means we need to talk about anything the client wants to work on. Grief is the focal point but only exists in a much bigger picture. I hope to be able to help people navigate those other issues as they'd like to.
As always, please feel free to let me know if there's anything in particular you'd like to explore on here or with me privately and I'll do my best.
